Reserve Completes Disaster Response Plan

Spills, hurricanes, explosions, accidents, medical emergencies…

As custodians of the Grand Bay Reserve we have to be prepared to respond to any type of incident that we may encounter.  Recently the Reserve staff worked with NOAA, local emergency responders, law enforcement and other stake-holders to develop a Disaster Response Plan for the Reserve.

In conjunction with NOAA and a response consultant Tetratech, staff also worked with the other Gulf of Mexico Reserves at Weeks Bay, Apalachicola Bay, Rookery Bay and Mission-Aransas to develop Plans for those areas as well.

The resulting Plan will help us be better prepared for emergencies and provide local responders with an excellent understanding of Reserve resources, expertise and concerns.  It is anticipated that a template of this plan will be used nation-wide at Reserves and other natural areas to develop similar plans.
