Purple Martin nest monitoring

Monday morning, Education and Outreach Coordinator Jen Buchanan and summer interns Logan Hill and Grace Hopkins conducted the first Purple Martin nest check of the season. We counted 8 active nests with a total of 27 nestling, and estimated 16 adults. Checks will continue to be conducted every 5-7 days until the young birds have fledged. The data will be collected and sent in to Project Martinwatch.

Logan and Grace are Bonner Scholars from Berry College in Rome, GA. They are working with Grand Bay NERR this summer to complete their second Summer of Service for their scholarship program.
