NERR to Host July Adventure Quencher: Survival in the Marsh
July 13th, 2012 | Category: NewsThe Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) will host their July Adventure Quencher: Survival in the Marsh on Saturday, July 21, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Grand Bay Coastal Resources Center located at 6005 Bayou Heron Road near Moss Point.
This fun, family-friendly event is geared toward teaching participants how to be prepared for an unpredictable boat accident or breakdown. Eric M. Lacefield, author of the book, Survival in the Marsh, will be on-hand to teach participants just what to do if you are stranded. Lacefield worked as a marine researcher for the State of Louisiana for 30 years and is now an EMT who teaches first aid and CPR.
“Knowing what not to do is as important as knowing what to do,” said Lacefield.
Lacefield will introduce participants to edible plants, teach them how to avoid hazardous animals and demonstrate how to make a safe shelter. He will also escort the group down to the marsh to look for the plants and animals from his presentation.
For more information or to preregister for the event, please contact Jennifer Buchanan at 228-475-7047 or jen.buchanan@dmr.ms.gov. Participants are advised to wear appropriate clothing, including closed toed shoes and bring a refillable water bottle.
