NERR Staff Attends Water Resources Conference

Kim Cressman, Grand Bay’s Systemwide Monitoring Program (SWMP) Coordinator, attended the Mississippi Water Resources Conference last week.  The Conference was held in Jackson, MS on April 1-2 and was hosted by the Mississippi Water Resources Research Institute.  Kim gave a talk on the utility of long-term monitoring data and the importance of SWMP in understanding phosphate inputs into Bangs Lake, located on the western side of the Reserve. Grand Bay and Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserves (NERR) partnered to offer a two- day workshop, Advanced Hydric Soils, on March 18-19, 2014.

During this outdoor festival, more than 25 exhibitors engage people of all ages, especially schoolchildren, in hands-on activities and presentations about the Gulf. The exhibitors use art, recycling, touch tanks with live animals, reading and other activities to excite the public about protecting the health of our coastal habitats.

February’s Adventure Quencher: Wintering Shorebird Expedition in Reserve

Grand Bay NERR launches Habitat Series

Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) offered a one-day course, “Introduction to Mississippi Coastal Habitats” on January 14, 2014. This workshop was designed to offer an introduction to the various habitat types found in MS as the basis for more advanced classes that will be held as part of the Series.

Principles of Ecological Restoration workshop

Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR), Weeks Bay NERR, and Apalachicola NERR partnered to offer a three-day course, Principles of Ecological Restoration, for restoration specialists and managers. This course was held by Dr. Andre Clewell, an international leader on the topic.

2013 Research Symposium
