The Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and the Bureau of Wetlands Permitting for MS Department of Marine Resources hosted a workshop to inform participants about applying for a General Permit on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the recent updates to the 2013 Mississippi General Permits.
More than 70 contractors and consultants attended to listen to presentation from representatives from the MS Department of Marine Resources, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, MS Department of Environmental Quality, and the MS Secretary of State’s office.

Presentations included:
- 2013 Mississippi General Permits for Minor Structures and Activities in Coastal Mississippi by Allison Monroe, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
- The Secretary of State’s role in general permitting by Ray Carter, Public Lands Attorney for the Secretary of State’s Office
- Updates to the General Permits by Willa Brantley, Director of Bureau of Wetlands Permitting for MS Department of Marine Resources
All speakers and Florance Watson, Chief of the Water Quality Certification Branch with the Environmental Permits Division for MS Department of Environmental Quality served on a panel to answer questions from participants.
This workshop was well-received. Of the participants that responded to the evaluation form, 100% thought that the workshop was a good use of their time and 96.6% said that they learned something that they would apply to future work decisions. A workshop will be planned for the fall to follow-up on some topics that were not covered by this workshop.
