August Adventure Quencher: Family Kayaking

When: Saturday, August 24, 2013 from 8:00 AM till 10:30 AM
Where: Grand Bay NERR, 6005 Bayou Heron Road, Moss Point, MS 39562 in southeastern Jackson County

Have you ever thought that it might be fun to learn how to kayak? Now’s your chance!

Join The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources’ Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve’s (NERR) Education Coordinator, Jennifer Buchanan, this coming Saturday morning for an introductory kayaking adventure.

Participants will be shown how to use a sit-on-top kayak in the flat waters of Gautier Bayou. After the brief lesson, the new kayakers will given a chance to kayak nearby on their own or to join Jennifer in an interpreted kayak adventure up the bayou.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. For safety reasons, participants must wear closed-toed shoes and are encouraged to bring bottled water, sunscreen, bug spray, a hat and a long-sleeve shirt. Everyone in a kayak must wear a life jacket, and children weighing less than 90 pounds must bring their own appropriately sized life jackets.

Only 14 spots are available for this adventure so pre-registration is required. Contact Jennifer or call 228.465.7047 to sign up for this event. You must pre-register in order to reserve a space in a kayak. All participants must wear life jackets while in the kayaks.
