Principles of Ecological Restoration workshop
November 21st, 2013 | Category: News, Past Sessions, TrainingGrand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR), Weeks Bay NERR, and Apalachicola NERR partnered to offer a three-day course, Principles of Ecological Restoration, for restoration specialists and managers. This course was held by Dr. Andre Clewell, an international leader on the topic.
Thirty-five participants attended the workshop, including federal, county, and state agencies, university/colleges, non-profit groups, the private sector, and consultants that are doing work along the Gulf coast. Dr. Clewell covered topics such as ecological impairment, recovery, and reference sites, restoring cultural ecosystems, and landscape restoration. Participants also went on two afternoon field trips to learn about local restoration projects that were successful and, equally important, unsuccessful.
As a follow up to this workshop, the three NERRs will be offering the NOAA Coastal Service’s Center Coastal Restoration Project Design and Evaluation workshop in Jan 2014.
